Dear Fellow KLAA Members,

I hate to start a letter on a down note, however, we are all saddened by the loss of a fellow KLAA Member, Charles Wright, of Corinth, KY. Charles lost his life in a fatal auto accident on January 28, 2008. He is deeply missed by his wife, Pat and son Glen and of course by all their llamas. Charles and Pat attended several KLAA events in 2007 and will be missed by all of us at KLAA. We hope Pat will be able to continue on with the llamas and be a part of KLAA.

2007 came and went as a flash before our eyes. Here we are, already into February 2008. When I was around 8 years old complaining about a short day or week, my father told me, “The older you get, the faster time FLYS.” At that time, of course, I did not believe him. Now, I find myself repeating that same statement to the younger generation, time and time again as I am sure most of you do. Does anyone have a solution to SLOW time down? If so, please call me and tell me your secret!

With a NEW YEAR underway, the 2008 KLAA Board of Directors have been elected. I would like to congratulate all our Board Members and give a big WELCOME to our newest, Mary Jo Miller. Mary Jo has been a tremendous asset to our organization over the past couple of years and I am very happy to see her on our Board of Directors.

Speaking of Mary Jo, she is working hard as always on our upcoming Kentuckiana Llama Classic which is being held on April 18, 19, 20, 2008. This year’s show will be held in Indiana at the same location as last year but will now include Alpacas and Miniature Llamas. It should turn out to be a very nice BIG show. Let’s hope it is a LOT warmer this year than last. Nearly all the show information has been posted on the show site located at
www.KentuckianaLlamaClassic.com. Hopefully, by the time you are reading this letter, all the show information will be posted. Since I am the one posting the information, “If It Is To Be, It Is Up To Me!”

The Kentuckiana Llama Classic is going to require MANY volunteers from setting up and tearing down gates, ring stewards, ribbon presenters, etc., etc. We hope as a member of KLAA, you will be able to volunteer for some part of the upcoming tasks.

The Llama Daze will be coming up again real soon. Charlotte Beaudin has always done a great job setting up this event and I feel confident she will do the same again this year. This is an event that Marvel and I have not been able to participate in in the past because of business or family conflicts but we hope to be there this year. All reports were that it was a great event in 2007. Let’s make it another great event for KLAA in 2008.

We look forward to a great llama year for 2008.

Sincerely,

John Maddy, 2008 KLAA President
