Dear Fellow KLAA Members,

WOW, how the time has flown. Another year has nearly come to an end. 2007 has been a very good year for KLAA. We had two successful Double Shows and two successful events in the Georgetown area.

We have been extremely fortunate to have Mary Jo and Larry Miller as Members of KLAA. With two very successful Double Shows under Mary Jo’s belt, she has become a real pro at being an outstanding Show Superintendent. My suggestion is, we give Mary Jo the Official title of “KLAA Show and Event Coordinator” and get her on the Board of Directors.

As far as I know, the ONLY complaints or negative comments on the North American this year was the misunderstanding, or lack of information, regarding the gate entry fees and parking fees. Mary Jo and I have discussed this issue and we promise to do a much better job of explaining it before the 2008 show. Speaking of the 2008 Show, the Board will be meeting to discuss this issue in the next month or so. There will be a lot of changes for next year’s show that we will have to strongly consider. They are regarding the NAILE Board and finances for the show. This year’s show, at least the preliminary figures, reveal that we came out in the black (exact figures are not known at this date) but, without the $5,000 that we received from the NAILE Board this year, 2008 will be a tough go financially.

A show the size of the North American requires many volunteers to make it run as smooth as it did, and ON TIME, I might add. This year, with approximately 240 animals at the show, we not only had volunteers from our organization but from other organizations as well. The AOBA volunteers during unloading were invaluable. I would like to THANK each and everyone of you and them for all your hard work, time and skills to make this show one of best llama and alpaca shows ever put on at the North American International Livestock Show. Of course, it certainly took a great deal of show co-ordination skills and thankfully, we had Mary Jo filling those shoes.

I am not sure how many of you noticed or observed Mike Gibbs and Larry Miller during the show. I did, and I must say, I am not sure how they kept moving by Sunday evening, but they did. They were both there on Thursday to help set up the gates, they helped all through the show and Larry literally helped load the LAST gate on the truck at the end of the show. Thank you so much Mike and Larry, for all your hard work before, during, and after the show. We absolutely could not have done it without you. I do not want to slight anyone who helped out at the show but these two guys just did not quit.

We look forward to a very successful 2008 season and also look forward to seeing all of you at our next meeting, which will be announced soon.

Sincerely,
KLAA President

John Maddy
